What Neighbors Are Most Concerned About
This infographic summarizes the concerns residents most frequently mentioned in petition responses opposing the proposed Prairie West Energy Center. It reflects 175 petition signatures and 157 written concern responses, with similar comments grouped into 25 issue categories to show which concerns came up most often. Water and well impacts were the most frequently mentioned concern, followed by noise, light pollution, traffic, property values, air quality, and rural character.
This chart helps show that neighborhood concern is not limited to one issue or a small group of residents. The responses suggest that people are worried most about impacts to groundwater and private wells, but they are also consistently thinking about noise, light, traffic, emissions, quality of life, and the long-term industrialization of the area. Because responses were open-ended and could mention more than one issue, the chart is best understood as a snapshot of what was top-of-mind for residents, not a scientific poll.
