Early Neighborhood Sound Monitoring — October 1–4, 2026
This interactive report is an early example of the sound-monitoring work being developed by HorseCreekProject.org. It combines outdoor sound measurements from the playground area at 1636 N Ridge Drive with local weather observations and identifies known periods when children were using the playground to provide context for normal neighborhood activity. The current setup uses repeated five-second sound measurements so we can begin learning what ordinary conditions look like before deciding how a larger neighborhood monitoring effort should be designed.
This report should not be treated as a finished acoustic study or evidence of future power-plant impacts. We are testing equipment, placement, weather integration, data presentation, and methods for distinguishing ordinary neighborhood activity from environmental sound. The goal is to use these early recordings as a starting point for discussions with residents and technical experts about how sound should be documented across the neighborhood, what additional measurements may be useful, and what objective information could eventually help evaluate or develop noise-mitigation measures if the proposed power project moves forward. This is an early example of the monitoring work to come.
